Built over nine centuries ago, with its first mention on record in 1110 The SKirrid Mountain Inn is certainly one of the oldest public houses in Great Britain .

Named because of the mountain it looms over 'Skirrid Mountain'  it is sometimes called 'Holy Mountain' so called because of the legend that the mountain cracked in two at the time of Christ's crucifixion. Steeped in legends one of them recalls the tale of Owain Glyndwr, the great Welsh rebel rallied his troops at the very stone before his attack on Pontrilas during the 14th Century.

Judge Jeffries is rumoured to have started his infamous career at The Skirrid Inn although this cannot be backed up by records. Time has eroded much of the evidence and we only have the records of heresy and legends.

According to folklore over 180 people were hanged from the a beam on the staircase, the beam is thought to be still there to this day. Well worth exploring with psychic abilities. The first floor would have been a fully functioning court room  many prisoners spent their last night waiting for their fate and if the rope marks on the beam are testimony to their end it truly is a place which would attract ghosts and other entities. With the many terrifying legends, incarcerations and merciless executions it is not at all unsurprising that The Skirrid Inn is indeed a Most Haunted Building.

It is said that glasses often fly across the bar by themselves. Faces appear out of nowhere and are seen at windows. Guests feel a ghostly noose around their necks. Aports regularly occur and one of the main spirits at the inn is that of the 17th Century barmaid Fanny Price. She has been picked up many times by Mediums including Most Haunted's Derek Acorah.

More than one spirit haunts the location of The Skirrid Inn so hopefully Ghost-evenings own mediums will be able to give some insight to the ghostly goings on at The Skirrid Inn and the ghostly historical legends that surround the building.

The Skirrid Mountain Inn will be one of the scariest places you will ever visit. Whether you are a believer, sceptic or an in betweener a Ghost-evenings event at The Skirrid Inn will be an experience you will not forget in a hurry.
